Australia and the world are facing an increase in natural disasters such as floods, bushfires, tsunamis, earthquakes, and cyclones caused by severe weather linked to climate change.

RMIT’s Disaster Research and Response Network aims to address the increasing need for research and development in all aspects of disaster management. With over 70 associated researchers from a broad range of disciplines the Network takes a multi-disciplinary approach to disaster research and works together with communities to identify and build resilience to better respond to and recover from disasters. The network provides our partners with easy access to research expertise and opportunities to collaborate on projects. The Network also enables a coordinated and timely response to calls for research capability and facilitates industry / academia events.

Research capabilities

The Disaster Research and Response Network focuses on the four areas of disaster management: Prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. Our multi-disciplinary research expertise aligns to the four areas and covers the below capabilities:

Disaster Prevention / Mitigation

Disaster Preparedness

Disaster Response

Disaster Recovery
